Life, this week.
Another post that should have probably been a diary entry.
Joburg tariff hikes. Petrol hikes. KPI’s. Developmental paediatric appointments. “Is it really the right school for my son.” Xenophobic attacks. The shame. Car needing repairs. I need more income streams. ‘Masa’s Corner is around the corner’.
I am painfully exhausted.
And yet, somehow, the dishes still need washing. Emails still need answering. Bosses still need impressing. Moms still need to be called and checked on; friends too. Lunchboxes still need packing. The groceries for said lunchboxes need to be bought. Boxes need ticking. The world does not pause simply because your spirit is tired.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how adulthood is just a long series of holding things at once: gratitude and fear. Hope and uncertainty. Ambition and complete depletion.
Some days I feel deeply inspired by the life I am trying to build: the books, the conversations, the community, the possibility of Masa’s Corner becoming something beautiful and lasting. Other days, I feel crushed by the slog of daily living.
I think many of us are carrying private heaviness right now. Quietly. Elegantly, even. Still showing up every day with curated captions while mentally calculating fuel costs and school fees and whether we are failing the people we love most.
It’s 17.43 on a Sunday evening and I do not have a tidy ending or a profound lesson. Only this: I am tired, but I am still here. Still trying. Still dreaming anyway. Thank goodness I logged leave for tomorrow.
This week’s recommendations:
Entrepreneurial spirit is saving the City of Joburg, one restored building at a time. I want to find time to visit the city’s latest restoration project, the relaunch of The Barbican.
My bestie’s sister recommended that my next read be ‘Lost Lambs’ by Madeline Cash. It’s in my cart, awaiting purchase.
We are 10 days away from the launch of my Book Club and pop-up literary events passion project. The candles, candle sticks, linen tablecloths, side plates and all other props have been purchased. The aide memoire sent to all guests. How utterly terrifying and exciting at the same time.
Chat next week.
Love,
Masa.

Wishing you all the success with your launch 🙏🏽
